Celebrity Colour Codes Part II: The Hair Edition!

Last week's post on celebrities wearing their right and wrong colours (you can find it here) was so popular, I decided to write a second edition, this time all about hair!
Hair is the first thing you notice about a person, so it is vitally important. I always recommend to never go more than a few shades darker or lighter than your natural hair colour. This ensures you stay in your colour code. If you go any lighter or darker, the colour will look unnatural and jarring, and your colour code will change.

So without further ado, here are some celebrities in the right hair colour for them (hint: it's close to their natural colour!) and the wrong hair colour (well outside the range of their natural colour).
The Light Colour Code

Gwyneth Paltrow is a beautiful Light. She looks best in light- to medium-blonde hair. This medium reddish-toned hair just looks wrong on her. The eye is drawn straight to the hair. In the second photo, we see Gwyneth first!

Cameron Diaz is another gorgeous Light. While this dark brunette colour would look lovely on a Deep, it's too overwhelming on Cameron and makes her look harsh and almost muddy. On the right, the colour blends with her colouring and Cameron becomes the focus.

The Deep Colour Code

Deeps should never go blonde. It takes away the part of them that makes them a Deep, and looks completely unnatural. We see this in Julia Roberts. Thankfully the blonde seems to have been a one-time thing: She's back to her lovely deep brown and has never looked better!

Blonde has the same effect on Natalie Portman. It makes her look a little fake, and cheapens her beauty. As a brunette, she looks authentically Natalie, and her true value is revealed.

The Soft Colour Code

Softs usually have dark blonde or light brown hair (like the "bronde" hair colour trend from a few years back). If they go too light, it looks completely unnatural, and if they go too dark, it overwhelms their soft colouring. Sarah Jessica Parker usually keeps her lovely medium-toned hair, but sometimes changes it for film roles. Here, the light blonde drains the life out of her. In the second picture, the medium brown harmonises with her lovely Soft colouring.

Drew Barrymore is another lovely Soft. The red tones in the first photo aren't bad, but seem to compete with her. In the second photo, the dark blonde doesn't take away from Drew's beauty; it enhances it.

The Clear Colour Code

Megan Fox is a stunning Clear. She is hardly ever without her beautiful dark hair, but I managed to find a picture of her as a blonde. She looks perfectly fine, but all the magic of her Clear colouring disappears. Thank goodness she's back to her dark brunette! Isn't she stunning?

On Zooey Deschanel, the blonde is far too harsh and jarring. Luckily, she knows how beautiful the stunning dark colour in the second picture looks on her, so wears this most of the time. It's perfect for a Clear like herself, and she looks breathtaking!

The Warm Colour Code

Warms can wear a vibrant red, like Jessica Chastain here, or go auburn or even a warm brown, and still stay in the Warm colour code. Unfortunately, this light blonde colour doesn't work with Jessica's colouring, and she looks drained. But she is brought to life by this vibrant red!

This cool black does nothing for Linsday. It almost makes her look a little scary! It completely washes out her complexion, as it brings out the blues and greys in her colouring. In her signature auburn colour, she is brought to life.

The Cool Colour Code

Unfortunately, I couldn't find many pictures of grey-haired celebrities, so I can only give you one example for the Cool colour code. Most celebrities continue to dye their hair as they go grey.

Those that stay grey sometimes put a strange wash of mousy brown or blonde through their hair (e.g. Diane Keaton) in an effort to appear more youthful. Unfortunately, it tends to do the opposite. Vanessa Redgrave has done this in the left picture. All this does is turn her yellow and bring out the blemishes in her skin. Thankfully, she also often wears her silver hair without any extra colour through it, like on the right here. Isn't it stunning?! It makes her skin look much more even and clear and brings out the blue in her eyes.

Did you enjoy seeing the effect the right and wrong hair colour has on these beautiful women? Which one did you enjoy the most?
