Some women love it, some can't stand it... Whatever camp you're in, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure a better experience when op shopping.
1. Come with a list: Before your expedition, have a quick sift through your wardrobe and check to see what you actually need. Don't bring anything home unless it serves your wardrobe in some way: otherwise you may bring home a pile of unnecessary pieces. No matter how cheap it is, it's a waste of money if it doesn't meet your wardrobe needs.
2. Make sure you know what suits you: Knowing your colour code and body type means you can look at an item and know whether it will flatter you or not before even trying it on! This will save you time and cut out any unnecessary frustration in the change room. My tip: look for colour first, then style. Most stores organise their items by colour, making it simple to glance down the racks to find the colours that suit you best. Then pull the garment out of the rack and check to see whether the style will flatter your body type. If it passes these tests, serves its place in your wardrobe and matches your style personality, it's a winner! It's time to try it on. Which leads me to...
3. Try before you buy: With everything so cheap, it can be tempting to buy an item without trying it on. Don't fall into this trap! No matter how small the investment, it is a waste of money if you don't get any wear out of the piece. And you don't need the added guilt every morning of seeing an item hanging in your wardrobe that you don't get any wear out of.
4. Check back regularly: Some trips will be successful, and some just won't. Op shopping is mostly about luck. If you're on a budget, are passionate about sustainable fashion habits or just love a good deal, it's a good idea to have a quick look whenever you pass by. You never know, you might just find the perfect piece your wardrobe has been missing!
