Lip Colours for Each Colour Code

To me, there's nothing like a bold lip.

Ever since I found out I was a Clear (one of the six colour codes) I've made a bright, bold lip my signature in terms of makeup.

But sometimes, a situation calls for a nude lip. Maybe you have a bold eye (it's important to balance your makeup - never do both a bold eye and a bold lip at the same time); maybe you want a 'no-makeup' make-up look; or perhaps you just prefer a softer lip look.

That's why I decided this week to give recommendations on which nude and bold lip colour to go for depending on your colour code.

So let's get right to it! First up...
The Light Colour Code

Women with Light colouring tend to look best in light, fresh colours. The above example of a nude lip colour is perfect for a Light, as it isn't too muted while staying very light in tone. For a pop colour, a Light could choose a colour similar to the picture on the right - something bright without being too intense. A red would also look stunning on her, as long as it is more of a light watermelon red - nothing too rich or intense.

The Deep Colour Code

Deep women look best in darker, richer colours. They can have any skin colour, but the above 'nude' example is best for a woman with a medium/deep skin tone. Typically, a nude lip colour is meant to be a 'my lips but better' colour, and should be close to your skin tone. So if you're a Deep and your skin colour is lighter than this, a colour lighter than this would be best; if you have a deeper skin tone, then go for a slightly deeper colour. It just needs to stay in the same intensity as this example. In terms of pop lip colours, this example is perfect (no matter your skin tone)! Go for a deep, rich, intense colour. You'll look like an absolute knock-out!

The Soft Colour Code

A soft woman looks best in muted, medium shades and should stay away from anything bright or vibrant, as it will wear her. The classic nude lip looks particularly beautiful on Soft women, and the above example is perfect. As for pop colours, it's a little difficult for Softs to pull off a bright lip, since anything remotely bright will overwhelm them. The most 'poppy' they can go is the above example. It's not super bright, but since they have such gentle colouring, it will really stand out against their colouring and look beautiful.

The Clear Colour Code

Clears are the exact opposite of a Soft - they look best in bright, vibrant colours. Because of this, a Clear can't successfully pull off a nude lip, but the brightest pop lip looks completely at home on her Clear colouring. Because of this, the "nude" lip I chose isn't nude at all. However, because a Clear woman has such bright colouring, it will appear like a nude colour on her lips. As for a pop colour, she should go as bold as she dares! I've given an example of a red, but Clears can try a bright magenta, or any vibrant colour for that matter.
The Warm Colour Code

Warm women look best in colours on the warm side of the colour wheel - think reds, oranges, yellows, and warm-toned greens, blues and purples. The best nude colour for a Warm is brown-based - she should try to avoid anything with pink in it. The nude example above is about as pink-toned as a Warm can go. As for pop colours, brick reds and vibrant oranges are perfect! The above colour would look stunning on a Warm.

The Cool Colour Code

Cool women are opposite to Warms - they should go for colours on the cool side of the colour wheel, like pinks, purples, blues, and blue-based greens and reds. For nude lip colours, the icier the better. This example is about as brown-toned as a Cool can go. Pop lips are absolutely beautiful on Cools - they look lovely in any bright blue-based colours, like berry reds, or the poppy pink pictured.
